Hazel began her formal education in art at Bracknell College, where from practising still life she was introduced to a wider range of artists.
She was interested in Degas and began working in pastels, developing a loose style. Her imagination was fired by Turner and the way that titles to his paintings forced one to fill in the gaps.
Hazel proceeded to University where she studied History of Art and became interested in Clyford Still and his expansive use of colour.
Her next influence was Jackson Pollock, Hazel began to question how he achieved his results, she began to experiment using string on her paintbrushes. At this time she started to experiment with minimalist techniques. What we see today is the result of Hazel's journey through the stages described.
