The intricate tapestry of life inspires much of the original abstract art that professional artist Jayne Leighton Herd creates. The various paths we travel; the deliberate and the unintentional changes of direction and, at the centre, our complex core of self with our dreams, values and relationships that make us who we are.
Jayne interprets this in stunning paintings reminiscent of textiles: detailed, textured patchworks of intense woven colour, sometimes with layers of sumptuous metallised collage evoking ‘pieced work’, which blend into bold, threaded sweeping strokes.
Jayne’s powerful paintings in acrylic, often taken for works in oil, display a certain uniqueness, which sets them apart from the work of contemporaries. Using a rich and vibrant palette, Jayne creates an enticing and dynamic world of colour and texture resulting in high impact paintings which satisfy both sight and touch. Energy, movement and space feature in her work, and combined with tempting texture and iridescence, she intends to attract not only the eye, but also to incite a tactile urge.
Jayne has a creative background having worked in advertising, graphic design and interior design. She became a professional artist in 2006 fulfilling her long-held aspiration. Jayne regularly undertakes commissions from both private and commercial clients, and her paintings feature in private collections in the UK, the USA and France.
